Senior Web Designer

Location: Redwood City, CA
Position Title: Senior Web Designer
Duration: Full Time

education.com is seeking an experienced Web Designer person who can take ownership of the design and development of significant portions our public web site, www.education.com. This individual will report to the VP of Engineering and must be strong in modern web design principles and practices, visual design, prototyping, and technology, but will work closely with User Experience and Marketing and Product Management in the requirements and specification phase of development. The Senior Web Designer  will ultimately interact with everyone in the company from the CEO through contractors and providers of SEO and web analytics. This broad exposure calls for an individual who works well with people regardless of their background and interests. And because education.com is a small start-up, this is a hands-on position; this individual will "roll up the sleeves" and help build the prototypes and final site.

Specific Responsibilities

• Design of advanced web interfaces and pages
• Driving the web design requirements, specification, and development process
• Co-development of the site UI with the User Experience Lead and a team of developers
• Occasional creative design work for other parts of the company

Background and Skills Needed

• High energy, open minded, passionate, team-oriented, with a strong sense of what is good and what works
• A keen eye for modern web site design, broad familiarity with advanced consumer web sites, and the ability to motivate and make design decisions.
• Strong in the following areas: information architecture, web design and validation, visual design, web technology
• Five or more years with lead responsibility designing consumer-facing content web sites through all life cycle phases
• Has built successful highly usable content, community, and social networking sites
• Can develop working prototypes using XHTML, DHTML, JavaScript
• Working knowledge of database technology and database-driven web sites
